A reader asked me the other night about how to get noticed when you’re at any event (big or small) especially where everyone is constantly on their phones checking social medias. She told me her frustrations of getting all dolled up but no one notices the effort, which put her off and feels like she would just wear whatever next time. Personally, I feel like looking presentable is an act that you do for your own self – for you to feel good and confident just in case you bump into your ex or someone you want to work with. To get noticed because of your appearance is definitely a bonus!
Here are some quotes from a few designers about dressing up that you can think of the next time when you just don’t feel like there’s a need to look good:
- “To me clothes are a form of self-expression – there are hints about who you are in what you wear” – Marc Jacobs
- “Dressing well is a form of good manners” – Tom Ford
- “What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today, when human contacts are so quick” – Muicccia Prada
Getting all dolled up and looking presentable are a choice that you make for YOU. If you don’t put effort on what you wear and just wear whatever, you’ll somehow feel sluggish and be the ones who are on their phones not socialising and mingling around at the party (I’ve been there countless times before!). However, there are ways to not put so much effort in thinking what to wear and such but still look good.
